Medical Pedicures and Podiatrists

As we go through our life, we come across curveballs that strike all the energy from us.  It could be Chemotherapy,
Paralysis, Parkinsons, Stroke, Blood Clots, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, Heart Conditions, Lung Problems, Epilepsy,
Motor Vehicle Accidents, Disability, and so much more.
Nail Polish:  Atlanta Foot Care Center does not apply any nail polish colors to toes.  The Podiatrist you see will discuss risk and benefit of applying nail polish.

All Patients over 65, or those with Diabetes may have insurance coverage for a Medical Pedicure.

1.  You will need to provide the name of your general doctor.  If you do not have one, we can refer you to one.
2.  A circulation test will be performed by a Medical Assistant, which involves taking blood pressures from your toes.
3.  You will have 3 X-rays taken by a Medical Assistant of both your feet to check for bone spurs around your toes, or bone problems
that can see where calluses come from.
4.  You will have a consultation with your Podiatrist who will discuss a plan
5.  A Nail Sample may be taken to be tested by special genetic testing.  this is never painful as it usually involves the end of the
nail that has loose ends but still has enough cells on them for us to examine the whole thing.
6.  The Doctor will then provide nail treatment.  Nail Treatment is a Surgical Procedure when done by a doctor.  While this is a
painless procedure, it may involve the use of a scalpel, medical grade Nail or Bone cutter, or medical grade drill.
7.  The Doctor will then provide callus/corn treatment.  Callus treatment is a Surgical Procedure when done by a doctor.  Calluses
can be in many places where patents can't see or not even know they are there.  As this may be treated with a scalpel, abrasive
     sleeve, or a tissue nipper.
8.  The Doctor will then apply creams and salves to your toes and feet and treat any localized skin problems.  She may also send
a prescription for a cream or lotion to your pharmacy.
9.  The Doctor will then usually examine your shoes and make suggestions.
